1333 FSB Mobo's...Check this out

From Anandtech's DDR3 writeup...

Quote:
All of the CPUs listed above in our table are 1066 FSB processors, but all ran fine at 1333 FSB at default multiplier and default voltage. Of course this is the FSB frequency Intel will be introducing on their soon-to-be-announced processors. This little side effect will make the P35 with DDR2 a favorite overclockers' board with current Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors. A $189 E6420 can perform even better than an E6700 just by selecting a 1333 bus on P35 and leaving everything else at default. Likewise, a $500 Q6600 will outperform the ~$1000 QX6700 with just a bus speed change.
This poses an interesting question (and excuse my total ignorance if I don't make sense). I have an Asus Commando that will run the new Intel 1333 FSB chips. Right now, I have an e6600 1066FSB chip. Is it possible to force this board to run it as a 1333FSB chip?

By overclocking the chip, haven't I already increased the bus speed? Is the bus speed the same as front side bus? Am I already running the chip at 1600 FSB (400mhz in bios). I'm tripping all over the terminology here. One reason I bought this board was for compatibility with the newer 1333FSB chips that are soon coming (probable higher Mhz chips down the road). Was that even needed? Will all 1066 boards do 1333 just by everyday overclocking? I'm lost.

EDIT: I think i just aswered one of my questions (damn I'm a newb). The chip starts at 266 in bios (x4=~1066). Running it at 400 in bios (x4=1600) which means I'm running a 1600FSB, right? This leads me to another question. That means that these higher clock 1333fsb chips coming out, are pretty much just overclocked 1066 chips? This doesn't give me high hopes for over clockability of the new 1333 compared with 1066, unless they're using damn good silicone in the newer chips. Although, they are 45nm, and have the new gate technology... Thoughts?

Ya well you know how much room most c2d have. Intel has some room to keep uping the clocks without having to redo stuff.

The whole 1333fsb bus thing is kinda meh, I wont buy one for that reason since it makes no difference to overclockers. My E6300 I just traded out was at a 1995fsb. I'm just thinking that I will be after that 45nm.

I just read that the higher cache (wolfdale 6mb) won't be coming out for a while, and quite possibly won't work on most motherboards out right now (possibly even mine...commando :swearing: ). These chips will be 45nm, will have the new gate tech stuff, and 1333FSB. I was hoping these would work for me, but things aren't looking too rosy without a motherboard upgrade.

To top it off, these 1333fsb chips coming next month (which will work on this mobo) are probably not going to be so hot for overclockers. Man, my hopes for great future upgrade room on this mobo have been shattered (hope I'm wrong).
