my new eVGA 8800GTX KO ACS3 story

i'm so happy, i just wanted to tell my little story about getting this card. nothing weird, just some misunderstanding with the clerk at the store.

so, monday i go to the store right around the corner from my appartment, where apparently they could order my an eVGA, even though they did not had it on their price list.

so i go to the guy and tell him i want the GTX. he says: 'you know, there's the ultra that just came out'. and i reply: 'i know, can you give me a price?'. he call some guy (the big boss i think) at another store of the branch (of 2 store ) and tell me 750$can for the ACS3, which is the european name, or something. i reply: 'hum no, the Ultra is the Ultra, and the ACS3 is just an overclocked GTX' (unless i am the one who is mistaken). and i tell him to order the regular GTX, which is 50$ less.

he didn't know the exact price of the card, but he estimate it at around 699$. which is correct since i asked the week before andthe guy told me almost the same thing he had an exact price, but i don't remember what it was. i pay some advance money, he tell me the card will be here wednesday. since my payday is thursday, i tell him that as long as i have it by then, it'll be ok since my friend is picking my old 7800GTX that day also.

fast forwars to thursday, i did not get any call confirming the card is here, but i decide to go anyway since the store is at 3 minutes on foot. i go in, another clerk is there, i ask for my card. imagine my surprise when i see the ACS3 edition. but i play it cool. and being the dumbass that i am i say: 'so, what is the exact price?' instead of just waiting to see if he would have ask for the estimated price. so the guy pick up the phone and probably call the same guy as the other day. tell me the price of the ACS3 and i jump.

i fake just realizing that this is not the right card. i tell him i had ordered the regular GTX. the clerk put it on speaker phone, so we could all talk together. the boss ask why i ordered the ACS3. i say i asked for the price, but never ordered it. now i can sense the guy is pised because this is a little store, so when they order something big like that, they are pretty much stuck with it if you don't buy it. so i tell him to cut 40$ off the price and he say he'll cut 20$. they all hang up, i stall a little, mumbling something about being short on money (which was close to the truth) and tell the clerk : 'at least, give me a compressed air can'. he agree, i pay and i leave thanking him anyway.

i almost ran home so i could try the card faster. i had to move my HD because the card is so big.

for thos interested, i got 10238 in 3dmark06 with driver 158.22 from tweak-r-us and a hundred more points with 160.03 from guru3d. all on stock speed (except the card).

i'm gonna try some other driver this week-end and overclock that thing, yippy

(i know this all boring and useless, but i'm at work and i have nothing to do)
