LG Flatron wide questions

Thread Starter
I have recently purchased an LG Flatron wide monitor and find that the text quality is poor compared to my old LCD monitor. I would have expected it to be better as its 2000:1 contrast ratio 5ms response time, and DVI. My old monitor was VGA with lower ratio/response but give me a better sharpness in text quality.

I downloaded the latest driver for the monitor and have messed about with the menu settings but no joy.

Also in game, I find it to be very dark. I have adjusted the lighting settings both in game and on the monitor but nothing seems to change the lighting of the game.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong or what settings I should mess about with.

Thanks.

Make sure your running at the LCD's 'native' resolution. If not, then your text will look blurry ...

For instance, I have a samsung 226BW and it's native resolution is 1680x1050; in windows, if I choose some other resolution other than that, the text will look like crap. At the native resolution, though ... it's super sharp.

As far as the lighting in games ... dunno ... mess with your brightness and contrast controls ...

good luck.

1- native resolution.
2- cleartype (on or off)
3- turn contrast all the way up THEN adjust the brightness...(unless you can't because of DVI..

I dono man...sounds like a weird problem...but you'll notice that with an LCD, if the area is SUPPOSED TO BE dark...it will be...CRTs just have a ridiculous amount of available brightness...and are usually overbright.

Does the monitor have a sharpness control? My old Acer and my new Viewsonic let me change image sharpness, which helps to make text clearer. I did notice, however, increased image blurriness when I switched from 1280x1024 @75Hz to 1680x1050 @60Hz, so you may want to check your refresh rate too.
