New E6320 system OC results...

Thread Starter
Well after being very unhappy with the temperatures of my E4300, I decided to try out a new E6320 and see if I could do any better...

L707A285 (pack date 4/18/07!)
Stepping 6 Rev B2

For starters, the chip reports that it is MUCH cooler. I'm truly beginning to think that the E4300 are reporting their temps wrong...but, I'll start a new thread on that subject!

I don't have ANY overclocking results that are 100% stable!!!!

So, last night I banged it up to 2.8GHz (FSB400) with probably stock voltage (1.24v-1.27v loaded) and the max core temp I saw was 45 C!! That was about the temp that my E4300 was idle. I ran OCCT for 55 minutes and called it an apparent success.

Next, I bumped up to 3.0GHz (FSB430) with (1.31v UNloaded, probably 1.35v BIOS) and OCCT would only run for 16 seconds!

Okay, let's back down- 2.8GHz (FSB400) give it some more juice...(1.26v-1.29v loaded - if memory serves correctly, about 1.35 in BIOS) and left OCCT overnight....
OCCT gave up after 4hr and 8min. Fairly respectable, but still not stable. The max core temp was 50C.

This morning I gave it a little more FSB- I tried 2.9GHz (1.26v-1.28v loaded). Only 44C, OCCT only went 3 minutes.

Next, I really want to hit 3.0+, so my temps are cool I'm willing to give this thing some voltage to get there...
3.0GHz (FSB433) (1.32v loaded, 1.40 in BIOS) OCCT died in 32 seconds!

3.0GHz (FSB433) (1.36v-1.38v loaded, 1.45 in BIOS) 53C max core, OCCT died in 19 minutes

3.0GHz (FSB433) (1.400v-1.416v loaded, 1.50 in BIOS!), 53C max core, ORTHOS is CURRENTLY STILL running for 1 hour 16 min in blend mode.

All test have memory 1:1, which is around 800 to 866. I've tested it up at 1000 (that's where it's rated). I also ran memtest this morning with my FSB at 433 to make sure I wasn't getting memory related NB error-it was clean.

Doesn't it seem like I'm already up in the voltage for only 3.0GHz??????
I think my NB is hot (433 is fairly overclocked for the NB, right?), but I don't think it's the problem-if it were, I'd have seen it in the memtest, I think. I think I've got my P5B-Plus properly configured:
PCI-E is [AUTO]
PCI clock is 33.33
Spread Spectrum is [DISABLED]
FSB termination voltage is [AUTO]
NB Vcore is [AUTO]
SB Vcore is [AUTO]
ICH chipsetvoltage is [AUTO]
C1E support is [DISABLED]

I'm just starting to fear that I got an unlucky draw on the chip. If I can get 3.0GHz to be stable, it's NOT the end of the world, but I'd much rather be throwing 1.5V and sending this message looking for help when trying to hit 3.5 or 3.6....not 3.0!

Any advice?

Set PCI-e to 100mhz
FSB termination voltage 1.4v
NB Vcore 1.45v
SB Vcore is 1.5v
ICH chipsetvoltage is 1.21v

Those are settings that work perfectly fine on my P5B Deluxe up to 533FSB.

I only have one 6320 in the Overclocked CPU by Week list but it is running 3.15@1.35v and it's an L707A also so hopefully you can get yours up there too. Hopefully Acoma's suggestions will do it for you

The 6320 Kriegen refers to is mine. It was actually pretty easy to get it to those levels. I am currently at 3.2 @1.4v (cpu-z). Ill have to double check my bios settings for voltage but i believe it was 1.48v. My memory is unlinked running 1.1 with the voltage manually set. All my other voltages are on auto.

I am 30c at idle (core temp) and 54 at load. MY CPU cooling is stock, but i did upgrade my NB to a TT Spirit.

Hope that helps. Keep this thread updated and ill add whats working for my 6320 where i can.

While I'm adjusting my settings, what about CPU TM function? It's under the CPU settings menu along with the multiplier, VT tech, C1E, and execute disable bit...

Here's an except I got out of ASUS manual:

CPU TM function
Allows you to enable or disable the CPU internal thermal control function. In TM mode, the CPU power consumption is reduced. Configuration options: [Disabled][Enabled]
[Enabled] is default

I don't have any BIOS setting for SPEEDSTEP...is that what this is? It is currently set to [Enabled]

Thanks.
Not working too well for me, yet...only at 3.0GHz
I set those settings and dropped my vcore to 1.400 in BIOS (I also went ahead and DISABLED the TM function) and I'm not stable in OCCT for more than 1.5minutes...I'm running ORTHOS right now for small FFT...never mind, it died at 4 min 17sec...so, I guess I'm back to pumping my vcore back up?????

I'm afraid I've just got a bum chip.
I ran @3.00GHz (FSB433) with 1.50V in BIOS on OCCT for 30 minutes without incident
I TRIED FSB450 and it wouldn't even POST!!!!
I tried FSB440 and booted, but OCCT found errors within a few minutes. Looking at what other people are getting, it looks like either I've grossly missed some setting in my BIOS (don't think so), my PSU might be crappy (Antec SmartPower 2.0, 450W), or I've just got crappy silicon. By the way, my temps don't sky rocket when I got from 1.25 to 1.5 for vcore?? They go from 45C under load to 52C under load (idle goes 25C to 30C)....I'm wondering if I could/should go for more voltage? It seems like 1.5 in the BIOS is approaching the "max for air cooling" unspoken rule, but my temps are kinda low? Or, should I just give up on this chip....

The power supply might indeed hold you back, you are asking quite a lot from that little puppy I had one too (Antec 450w SM 2.0) and it died after only 6 months out of nowhere...

Disable all advanced cpu settings except "Execute disable bit". And also, your mobo is a P5B-Plus, not a Deluxe and I'm not sure what the max FSB is on it...

Can someone tell me what the 100C "CPU" reading is in speedfan??? It used to be more like 70C-80C when I was at 1.500vcore, I upped to 1.525 and now I've got this 100C reading, but the loaded core temps are still low 50's...any advice??

D00d, I got the exact same week chip as you:

L707A - but mine is E6420

I am 90% sure we have the same exact pack date too lol. You buy yours from NCIX by any chance?

At work right now, so cant double check, but so far I got mine up to 3.0Ghz @ 1.38V I believe.

I got some **** ass ram though thats throwing errors even at like 805mhz fsb. Waiting for OCZ cross-shipment RMA to come in.
