Agreed.

I use the WRT54GS and love it. Never had any issues and certain revisions of this router can be flashed with linux to increase the functionality exponentially

For future reference, watch out if you do buy a D-Link router if you are using Vista. I had to change to Belkin when I upgraded to Vista as DLink basically weren't releasing Vista drivers for their products manufactured before the Vista release.

Those newer units made after were going to have Vista drivers, but I am not too sure of the current situation, and noting that you restored the original one, then all is good

If you do go for the WRT-54G series, get the GL. The new G revisions don't allow for the 3rd party firmware, which is basically needed because the linksys firmware tends to be really buggy. It is also the exact same hardware as the GS but with the speedbooster disabled in the linksys firmware. DD-WRT can unlock that feature and it currently has a 10 mail in rebate at newegg.
