Overclocking a AMD Sempron 3000 (s462)

Thread Starter
I want to overclock my cpu and have been working on it for past 2 days. I cant overclock with my Bios so i use a Tool called Clockgen. Ive been able to get my CPU to 2.2ghz, from 1.9ghz. When i use CPU-z i dont see my voltage go up. Why is this, and when i open my Computer Properties it still shows the Normal Speed. Also, what is the max temperature my cpu can handle, just to kinda know the threshold of it. And ive tried overclocking my AGP and PCI slots, what will this do, any performance gain to my GPU?

A socket A Sempron 3000+ can run at about 2233mhz on standard vcore. If you want to go any higher then that you need a lot of voltage up, for example 2.4Ghz requires 1.8v.

DONT overclock AGP and PCI slots because it will kill all components over time.

ok, i can achieve the 2233mhz, but if i want to go higher how would i go about raising the voltage, since i cant do this in my system bios? And im gonna need to buy a new case and a new cpu cooler for this so it doesnt overheat. Is the Ram selected a decent overclocker as well?

That cooler isn't the best around... I'd look for a better one.

And as for ram, any PC3200 ram will do because I don't think you will go over 200FSB stable (meaning DDR400 speed).

Also Clockgen is really bad for overclocking, you are probably overclocking your AGP/PCI ports which is really bad. If you really want to overclock you will have to look into a good socket A mobo, which you can probably get really cheap.

If you don't get that option in the BIOS, you probably can't without a volt mod.

Well, than ill just try and run it as high as possible w/o volt mod. Possibly 2.3ghz. Andy, whats a better program than ClockGen. It seems to work well, but i dont know if the New Speed is put into effect on boots or saved into my BIOS.

I don't know of any other prog thats better.

The changes are not saved in the BIOS when using the likes of ClockGen. Only changes and "Save" when exiting in the BIOS it self remain.

I looks to me that the only thing to do (if you whant to go higher) is get a new mobo.I would just save up for a new PC, that CPU and Socket and everthing is getting up there in years.
