ok thanks for the info I took it off and reapplied the paste and turned the waterblock sideways, now temps dropped to 41 ish.

with 1 x prime running its 55ish but fluctuating alot by 1 or 2 degrees.

How do you get multiple primes running? if you try and open another one it wont.

Try easypckits.com
if you decide to do it, lap it till you see copper, i believe all new intel chips come with a copper IHS, (doing this will VOID warranty)
Do not try to completely remove the IHS...cause its quite a risk,(it involves a blowtorch) it would be a pity to screw your x6800 up

some example of removing the IHS, screwing up a perfectly good chip:

This is not something we suggest that anyone should try and in fact there is only a one in four chance that it works. Even if the processor works after IHS removal the load plate has to be removed from the socket as the core of the processor will sit below the load plate when it's locked down on the CPU.

Glad to see that you got things working! Did you figure out what was shorting or do you still have stuff covered with tape?

No tape and seems to be running fine. Not sure where the short was.
Wierd.
I think this qx6800 since it outputs 130w-150w it needs hardcore cooling!

I'm going to have a go with my high OC'ing 6600 and see how the temps are.

I may consider buying some alternative watercooling.
