How high can I go AMD X2 3800+ Asus A8N-SLI

Hi guys, I know a fair amount about electronics, lasers, high voltage and other stuff, but I'm not very OC knowledgeable. I appreciate some of the more experienced folks here are great in regards to over clocking and I'd appreciate their assessment of my system.. How far do you think can I push this one?

Motherboard: A8N-SLI
CPU: AMD X2 3800+(sorry I forgot to get the DFLJASDF value when I had it apart last)
Memory: Corsair twinx 2 gigs
Cooling: Water, load temps (per core) C1: 31, C2: 36
Currently Running: 2.4Ghz (400Mhz OC), at 1.38-1.39 volts(stock)

My own experience with this is 2.4 is as high as I can go at stock volts (1.38-1.39) before orthos fails quickly.

Update: 1.41V 2.5Ghz, orthos failed after 3:44 minutes.
Update: 1.47V 2.5Ghz, orthos still running after 16 minutes... might change Temps c1: 38 c2: 38
okay, stepping up 100Mhz
Update: 1.49V (Everest) 2.6Ghz, orthos just started, running for 24 seconds and stopped! Temps(idle) C1: 23 c2: 29 back to the BIOS
Update: 1.55V(Everest, 1.5 Bios) 2.6Ghz, starting orthos now. Current: C1: 45C c2: 43C Ambient: 20.5 Orthos 42 min, still running.
Level up, next at 2.7
Update: No chance at 2.7 :/ Orthos dropped out at 0 seconds.. Backing off to 2.65
Update: 2.651 at 1.5V(bios) 1.55V(everest) / Orthos running now for 1:36 and failure. C1: 43 C2:40 Backing off to 2.63 :/
Update: 2.634 at 1.5V(bios) 1.55V(Everest) / Orthos running now for 4:10 min c1: 43 c2: 40 -- Failed Core 2 at 4:10 minutes.. Retesting. Ambient is still 20.5C rad exhaust temp is 23.4
Retest: C2 failed again, this time at 8:54 min.. gonna back off more once I watch some TV.
Update: Ran at 2.6, orthos stopped 1 hour 47 minutes.. backing down to 2.55Ghz
Okay, been running at 2.55Ghz for 14:24 hours in orthos now C1: 43 c2:43 so it looks like thats where I'll settle for a bit.

BTW: This motherboard/BIOS is capped at 1.5V unfotunately.

Overclocking ability varies greatly between chips. Best thing to do is trial and error while watching your temps. With a small bump in voltage, you'll probably get much higher though.

As the saying goes, "Before you can run, you've got to learn to walk." So it is with overclocking. You've got to do some homework before you can move on to more sophisticated projects.

Here's a detailed treatise on AMD64 overclocking. It's long, it's quite involved, but I guarantee you'd be all the richer for having read and understood it.

Hope this helps, and good luck on your overclocking adventures!

Thanks for the response Kloro AND txtmstrjoe. Dang, I was expecting it might take some effort. Since I made 2.4 on air with the peaks as documented in my build thread, I might have a bit more leeway. I'll see what I can pull off tonight and post here.

Just to be absolutely fair, suicide speeds of 3+ GHz are far more often the exception rather than the rule.

A more realistic and achievable target, I'd say, is about 2.5-2.6GHz.

However, there's really no way to tell how fast your specific system can go. The only true way to know how high your ceiling is is to just go for it.

Okay, been running at 2.55Ghz for 14:24 hours in orthos now C1: 43 c2:43 so it looks like thats where I'll settle for a bit. All my changes are logged in the first post to keep from spamming the thread.
