thanks for the tip, i followed their suggestion and installed the latest k-lite codec pack... problem solved

i didn't want to use VLC because i don't like the way you can seek a scene in the video file

I am with you on that one, seeking is rubbish. I actually installed gordian codec pack yesterday before seeing this thread. I wonder if it stopped the tearing.

EDIT: It has. So I guess one of the codecs or filters from those 2 packs needs to be installed.
