New to overclocking and need help

Thread Starter
Hi i am not that new but i have only overclocked on realy old PC and am not up to date with some othe the new BIOS settings.I am overclockin the rig below and i have got it to 2.4GHz.It is runing on the stock heat sink and i have run some test and ti showed that the max temp after 15 min was 47c.I was like ok (I heard that the max safe temp was 50c).I when stared playing BF2142 and the computer just restared.I them tryed it again and it did the samthing.I thought it mite be vista doing it.I then set the clockes back to stock and nothing happend it played just fine.I then took the OC up to 2.5GHz It was runing good the max temp only when up about .5c.Them the computer crashed and its said somthing about ''no less or equal''.I now have it at stock but i whant to oc it.The CPU and ever this plenty fast for gaming and everthing i just whant to oc it for the hell of it and becuase i just like saying i have a oced pc.I did lower the HT link and put the lockes in the PIC and PCI-E.I also lowerd the ram to 677 and the oc put it back to 800MHz.Also when it is at stock and it posts it says that its DDR2800 ram @735
But when it get to the CPUZ and Nvidia monitor it says that its at 800.
I am not sure about this one setting it say somthing about the PCI but and it is set to enable but can also be set to auto.

It's not a good thing to be running at 47C... 50C = Ultimate Max. I think you should try two things.
1:Read the AMD overclocking guide.
http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ing-guide.html
2:Buy something else than stock cooling if you get that working.

Ok, so if you can do that stuff, you are in OK shape. Did you look at your processor's stepping before you put it in? Oh, and keep PCI/PCI-X/AGP all at stock/auto(or very close) because they cause crashing and yield little performance gains.
