E6320 Ready to clock - Page 2

Thread Starter
well. the generic ram crapped out at 367mhz 5-5-5-15 stock volts, so i added 0.1v to ddr and it got to 377mhz before it started crapping out in prime95..for generic ram i think thats enough, time for 2 new sticks.

so the ram is now Corsair 6400c4dhx which hopefully will give me the head room to reach the target of 3.0+mhz, any tips on settings welcomed.

please tell me more about the pce-e x1 thing, i'd not seen that before, also will i get a better pverclock with F10 or F11?

When I overclocked mine over about 300MHz FSB, the PCI expres speed on my video card would always drop to 1x and there was a big hit in games. It is easily fixed for me by adding +0.1V to the G MCH voltage setting. It happens to me in both F10 and F11.

This problem might be different for each motherboard, though.

I would like to know how that goes, I have the same processor and stepping that you do.

I've know this issue to have been fixed by upping your PCI-X clock by 5-10MHz as well. Just a FYI in case it happens.

theres been a bunch of threads about this chip in particular, many with step by step instructions for descent oc's. search might help
also, fan on the nb would be a good idea

Stock cooler, no voltage increases, set my FSB to 400 and memtest ran w/o errors, don't have Windows on here (trying Kubuntu 7.04) and I don't know how to setup Orthos (is there one for Linux?) or FAH yet so I just let Nexiuz (3d FPS game) run for a day w/bots to do a moderate stability test, worked fine.

I set it to 450 FSB and it wouldn't post - back down to 400, I'm more than pleased with that w/such cheap RAM. I think the first thing I'd do if I wanted to OC higher would be something like the Thermaltake HR-05 heatpipe NB Chipset cooler, I don't like how hot the NB gets.

Any idea at all why an INCREASE to that would help stability?

Well so for so good, 2870mhz bios set to 1.320v(i think it undervolts as well)
L651B543 http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=206580
i'm gonna test with less voltage for cpu this weekend, fingers crossed for 3ghz, but even still a clear ghz overclock is very nice.

well its been a while so i bumped it to 3010mhz the ram is using 4-4-4-12 and all seems well, i also went for the F12 bios.
one thing i did see is xeon processors with the same week and stepping as my humble 6320 only the "B" number at the end was 300 lower, my question is whats the difference between the xeon's and the 6320?
