had nothing to do with supply nor with DDR3 in this case

It was good ol' illegal price fixing as stated by some others in this thread.

so are the prices going to go back up again? should I by these now even though i can't build a system for a month or two? $130 after rebate is a great deal.

You could probably wait a month at least, the prices won't really go backup until they switch to produce mainly DDR3, which is a few months off at least.

No the prices won't be going back up to their previous levels anytime soon. DDR2 is going to be the standard for some time to come and the exorbident prices before were due to illegal price fixing which would probably be fairly easy to spot this time around.

Too bad DDR prices didn't drop like that.. man with the prices of DDR2 now it almost makes sense to upgrade to a C2D or an AM2 system

last year the CEO's of the major memory manufactors where fined and jailed for price fixing, that memory is now mostly sold and the stuff on the market now has been bought since by compains like PNY, G.skill, Geli ect and because they are now paying say 5 bucks per 128mb IC they can make ram cheaper.

Speaking of that, we can now hold 128mb of ram in a single IC to make a 1gb DDR stick have just 8 chips, anyone remember when 128mb stick of ram meant 16 ics and the cost was to big for more to imagine?
