8800 GTS 640mb or 8800 GTX?

Thread Starter
Ok im going out to buy a 22" HP Widescreen monitor with the 1680x10xx resolution. I know that either one of these cards (8800 GTS 640mb or 8800 GTX) can run games smoothly at that resolution, but the question is what about DX10 games? I will also be buying a new CPU (AMD 5600+ 2.6 Ghz 1x2mb L2 Cache) so i was wondering if buying the GTX would be worth it because of the bottleneck i will have. I'm namely worried about running Dark Messiah, Crysis, CoH, CnC3 & Hellgate london at full (or close-to-full) settings on this resolution with 50+ fps. With this CPU tho, i dont know if i'll see much a gain between the two.

Let me know what yall think

If you can afford the GTX, go for that. But either one will be fine for gaming at that resolution.
If you want Crysis, if anything it'd be the CPU that'd hold you back (according to what I've read, anyway) .. but the 8800GTS 640 or GTX are extremely good cards.
In my opinion, the GTX is a waste of money when you can get the GTS 640MB and o/c it to near, if not more, GTX speeds.
Although the GTX has more onboard memory (768MB), the GTS 640MB range has been cut from production and 320MB cards only sold -- this means that whichever you get, any games coming out in the future will be made optimised for 320MB cards, and the extra memory will make it even better
Considering all this: Get the GTS 640, save yourself the money toward another component
