Help Me With My Super Build!

Thread Starter
Well I'm finally going to build myself a super rig and get rid of my crappy HP. I'm currently not really sure if I should get an E4300 or an E4400. Either of those two CPUs will be temporary because I plan on getting a Penryn as soon as it comes out.

Also, I know that my PSU is currently overkill, but I plan on stepping up or selling my 8800GTX to get an 8900GTX or better and then get SLI. And after that, I will get a 3rd GPU for physics if I hear it gives advantages.

I'm going to order all the parts after I hear some opinions from everybody so please help!

You really don't need a 1000W powersupply. A 600W would be plenty for your build.

Try that one. I hear great things.

Like I said, I know my current PSU is overkill, but I'm getting it so I won't have to buy a brand new one when I upgrade it in about a month or so.

I know Ultra isn't known for good PSUs, but the 1000W X3 is different. That PSU got an extremely good rating from JonnyGuru and is extremely popular on his forums. The only problem I hear with the Ultra is that it blows a lot of hot air, but that can be fixed with 9x 120mm 90 CFM SilenX fans.

From great to mediocre parts..........not good IMO.

Get a P5B-Plus $140 or a P5B-Deluxe $190
2GB of DDR2 HZ is more than enough. No need for 4GB, yet.
Wait till the end of July and get a Quad Core Q6600 or get an E6600 or E6420
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer Quad-SLI 750W for $180
Case, Thermaltake Shark is better, and less expensive.

PSU link: http://www.pcpower.com/products/view....php?show=S75Q

Case: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=371216

BTW, regardless, ULTRA is crap, no matter what.

I was originally thinking of a PC P&C, but I want modular instead. Plus PC P&C PSUs are so loud, and I want my rig to be extremely quiet.

And I have to disagree with your statement about Ultra PSUs. True most of them are garbage, but have you actually looked at the specs of the Ultra X3? Even Jonny Guru praises that PSU for it's awesomeness.

And here's a review from the Jonny Guru forums. Unlike most reviews, the people that test PSUs on this site actually know what they are doing.
http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_deta...103&page_num=4

I might actually consider the Silverstone ST1000W though.
Anyone know anything about this PSU?

Oh and I have Vista 64bit, so 4GB of RAM will not go to waste. Plus RAM is so damn cheap right now.

Ultra has been making great PSU's for the past 6 months ever since they switched the people that make then to a much better one. I'd stick with the Ultra
