what is the Netherlands' equivalently to Home Depot, if there is not one you could always order some on-line. i have never lapped a HSF but i have heard you need at least 1000 grit, 2000 for best results. maybe consult your local Auto-body shop if they also do paint jobs.

Initially and optimally, no.

It will flatten the base, and that is the most vital element of lapping.

You could give it a shot....

As you use the paper the grit will be come worn and the microscopic valleys in the paper will fill with HS material. Essentially this lowers the abrasiveness of the paper. If you were patient and careful (the paper will become more susceptable to tearing) you could do a fair lapping job with 600 paper that might ablate to the equivelancy of 1000 grit. erm... don't quote me on that as I am merely taking a stab in psuedo-educated manner..

Flat is First, the tiny lans and grooves can be filled with AS5.

Yeah 1000 should be fine, if you want a mirror finish I think you will have to push for 2000 grit.

Yeah, you'll have to spend some time on 3600 grit though.

Do the 3600, though from 1000 to 3600 may take a LOT of elbow grease...

Yeah... spend many hours on 1000grit until it gets close to mirror shine. Then spend like 30 mins on 3600grit to finish up.
Once again...
