Will the REAL CPU temperature please stand up? - Page 2

actually i think we did, see tat and core temp read actual cpu core temps, your bios/asus probe/speedfan get there temps from a different sensor then tat and coretemp, they read the cpu temp overall,

this is why if you say ran a different bios that had a different temp readout it would change asus probe and speed fan but not tat and coretemp

they all seem to be working fine you just have to realize they come from different sensors, its usually the other way around where tat and coretemp are higher then the others which is kind of weird but oh well

Speedfan is always a bit off from TAT, Coretemp crashes my comp, and I don't think the DS3 has a temp probe for it like Asus boards do.

FYI- I do have the latest BIOS...P5B is so new, there is only the initial release.

The reason I question their validity, is I can't imagine ANYTHING could be hotter than the core temp of the CPU, so when TAT says core is 39C and ASUS program says CPU is 51C, it's very counter-intuitive...if not unbelievable that any place near the CPU could be hotter than core.?.

It's believable I guess. My cpu is running at 50% load folding and CPU temp is always higher than each cores. 36 cores, 39 CPU, and idle it goes down to 28 cores, 36 CPU. I think they are reading just fine, just make sure the cores don't exceed 60C

Even if the CPU temp goes over 100C? As I recall, my core temps were hitting 57C (core was below 60C), but the ASUS and fanspeed utils said CPU was 103C...

Okay umm, then i don't think they are reading properly ... theres no way it could hit 100C... the absolute max is 85C I believe and thats when the silicon starts melting... maybe it is reading incorrectly after all. Didn't know about the 100C lol

Yeah, that's back to my point of no CPU/MB temp should be HIGHER than core IMO.
