Vista Business Edition worth it?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, so i just ordered a new core 2 duo build parts 2 days ago and was wondering what OS to go with. I have the Xp 64bit at home, but my college offers the Vista Business Edition for 10$. I was wondering since its the business edition is it worth it for a college student? i kinda want vista to try out but they dont offer any other versions except the business edition which is kinda weird. So what do you guys think

Depends, if its for just basic use... Do it. Plus, you get DX10 support for future... However, for now driver support is horrible... So you might consider dual booting.

Coming from someone who actually uses Vista x64 Business Edition I'd say that you'll find it has all the features you'll need. I chose Business instead of Home Premium as I use Cyberlink programs to watch DVD's and my sound card has its own Media Centre software anyway. I didn't want to pay for programs I wouldn't use so I opted for Business as it supports multiple CPU's, has built in file encryption and a remote terminal services client, just like Windows XP Pro.

I would just get ULTIMATE and get EVERYTHING with it. The OEM Version is pretty good pricewise.

BTW...get 32bit as 64bit tech still has a LOT of maturing to do still and yuo might not get the drivers that you need.

Whoa, that is a nice price! See if they have any other versions of vista and post the price. If they don't, then yeah, go with that.

As said above, if you use different media/DVD applications anyway, it's fine for pretty much everybody. Plus, you will need it to log onto a remote network (assuming your college has one), a feature home premium does not have. Plus, it is probably less buggy then even XP 64, even if drivers are still hard to come by. Plus, that's a really good price.

I'd like to add my recommendation for x64 instead of x86 as it makes use of additional security measures that aren't present in the 32-bit versions of Vista. I've been running Vista x64 Business since two weeks before the 30/01/2007 and driver support was absolutley appalling. However, three and a half months later things are looking much better. All drivers are much closer to XP performance now, though you will still have issues trying to get some older printers/scanners working with Vista.

Hey, uh, I could get an entire OS for 10$... is it worth it?

Sheesh dude, a lunch and a cup of coffee is more expensive. Hell, I can't even get that price from family who buy from the MS company store! Of course it's worth it.
