Help me OC my E4300! - Page 4

Thread Starter
Well, I haven't tried overclocking the RAM to 700MHz so I did that, all of the other settings bar voltage settings were already as you said they should be.

Just tested in Orthos for 25mins and seems stable so far compared to all of the other overclocks I tried and this is with close to stock voltage (1.337v) just as you said

According to a German review I read for my RAM, it can overclock to 900MHz without problem with 5-5-5-15 timings

Now, what settings to get to 3GHz?

Core Temp reported 60c on both cores.

Also does running at 8x multiplier instead of 9x but running at the same clock speed have any difference in performance?

Lastly, why does Windows, Orthos and Core Temp show the CPU speed as 3.15GHz?

Thanks!

is that LOAD or IDLE?

that is a tricky answer....kind of...i found there is very very little difference, but in most cases 8x showed me better results (8x and 9x running at same 3.2Ghz)....this has to do with your last question...

for what ever reason when you lower the multi you raise the nb fsb...this is shown by WINDOWS, ORTHOS, and Sandra....i also think this is why you can see better results with 8x over 9x...

Try running ScienceMark2.1 and CPUMARK2 benchmarks...run both of those with your older 9x multi settings, and then run them again with your new 8x multi settings...you'll see very little to no difference....except for the fact that you are using lower vcore and running much cooler...

to hit 3Ghz or more you may want to try to up your vcore another step or two...if your ram can do 900mhz, that shouldn't be a problem for it..375x2=750mhz RAM...if your load is 60c thats good, just keep it under 65c...

60c is LOAD temps. Just finished another Orthos session that lasted 48mins. No errors and peak LOAD temp was 62c on both cores.

I'll give 3GHz a try soon.

Thanks.

60 load is not a problem and is in the "NORMAL" zone....this info comes from INTEL...

Its not looking good for 3GHz. I've just tried 1.41v on the vcore and after 5mins of Orthos the system reboot.

I was able to reach a stable 3GHz with 333*9 @ 1.44v so this isn't looking much better unfortunately and 3.2GHz is most likely just out of reach

Core temps are also reaching 70c on full load @ 3GHz.

Would upping the RAM voltage allow me to go down on the vcore or does it not work like that?

i am starting to wonder about those boards....if you go to Fry's for another one get the 965P chipset....Gigabyte is a solid motherboard..its $100 at Fry's...MSI also makes a 965p mobo..but idk much about it...i do know that the 965p chipset is proven to be a good oc'er...

if you are looking for sli/crossfire board, http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/...mit=ChangeItem
but idk what kind of price Fry's will have on it..but its either that or a 680i board...all are pretty pricey...if you don't care about sli/crossfire i would get the Gigabyte 965P-S3 board...its awsome...

if you get a new mobo like the Gigabyte, let me know your results...if it oc's your cpu better, i'll have to put the word out on that...

and if you live in Indy, i'll go shop with ya..lol

All chips are different.

Seating could make a difference.

To original post, ever consider lapping your heatsink?
