Why would people who hate ATI so much troll a forum for their products. I don't even look into hardware threads I am not considering purchasing or need tech support for.

I mean, the best SLI chipsets were for AMD (until 680i came out), and the best Crossfire platforms were on Intel (the 975X is still a pretty darn good chipset, and even the AMD chipsets on AMD's side have a hard time beating it).

Not too long ago, Intel + nVidia was the blasphemy
Exactly, it is some damn blasphemy that people NOW use Intel/nVidia

And I also find it blasphemy that AMD bought out ATI instead of Intel..

Also both companies are under an Antitrust investigation for price fixing (behind the door dealings to set gpu prices at a certain price point). Anyone who knows about the PC market knows thats alot of bull as there is alot of bad blood between the companies. Nvidia bought out ULI just as ATI's affiliate board manufacturers started to use ULIs southbridge chipsets injstead of ATI's own sb450. It just goes to show that the animosity might not extend just at the consumer market.

One thing is for sure without any competition the government can step in and break up a company; so all those who are wishing for AMD/ATI's downfall might want to think twice or you might see crappier products with alot less support because a company can have a "who gives a crap, were the only game in town" attitude with their products without competition. Niether Intel nor Nvidia want to see a complete disappearance of their competitors or some people might be out a job. My grandfather lost his job when pacbell was broken up.

I was pretty early with the X1900's in Crossfire, and I had never a single problem with any of the drivers. Yeah, CCC was buggy, but who cares...that's just the shell. The drivers were good pretty much from the beginning.

It always remains funny to me that the ATI drivers have the reputation, but the most complaints I hear on the forum is with nVidia drivers, to the point that people have to roll back to older versions(!) since newer drivers decrease performance!!!

And ATI isn't overpriced. When I bought the X1900's, they were a bit cheaper than the 7900GTX's. About the same performance, even in Crossfire, and ATI simply did have the better image quality, and could handle AA and HDR simultaneously.

Not sure where the anti-ATI bias comes from.

However, at this very moment I would pick an nVidia card if I were to upgrade. The 8800's are just too far ahead of the 2900's right now.
From the bad drivers for the HD cards, the fact they are almost 500 dollars online and close to 600 on store shelves and the nvidia card is 300 online and 350 in stores right now maybe, its overpriced, and the drivers suck.

We try to educate the ATI nutters about proper gaming cards. Of course some wouldn't listen back in the Rage128 vs TNT2 or Radeon vs Geforce, or even Geforce3/4 vs R8500, but maybe this time you will listen to reason instead of blind faith.

I dont see a problem, in 1999 Nvidia released Geforce, there compition was left in the dust, with nothing to show. It killed off a few compaines and Geforce2 finished the job, Matrox, S3, Cirris Logic, and 3DFX all died in 2000, with Matrox and Cirris Logic going back to Professional 2d cards, S3 being bought by VIA and 3dfx going to nvidia to fade into memory. Nvidia didnt have to launch Geforce2, the Geforce was untouchable as we all know, and no other competitor was close to beating it. But we got Geforce2, followed by Geforce3, ATI was always one step behind untill 9700pro, untill that point NVidia was always way out in front and had no reason to launch things like Geforce 2 or Geforce4, but they did.

Nah man I love my mobo! There are a total of 6 SATA connections on the board.
http://www.abit-usa.com/images/products/at8-32x-lg.jpg
I have 2 X1950 Pros which come pretty close, but I can get the SATA connection in first, then install the card (s). You can always use the upper SATA connections near the CPU (I'm currently using it now)
I forgot to add that I can get my HT to 310 stable in Orthos for an hour (maybe more) I would suggest this board to anyone.

because i promise my little 8600GT would mop the floor with your 1950pro and its cheaper, i can not defend a company like ATI
In your dreams man. I read some reviews on that card when it came out.
I get 8500 in 3dmark 06, and the in game benches are even more of a reamer XD
http://www.overclock.net/hardware/sh...hp/product/525
Also, I bought these cards in November 06....so yea. FYI one of my card runs faster than a 8600, judging by the 3dmark06 score and BF2142 in-game benches. I got ~5500 in 3dmark06
That being said I'm no ATI fanboy, but they had the best card for the $$$ when I bought mine.
If you need then check the HW bot results with my CPU:
http://www.hwbot.org/searchResults.d...inTotalPoints=
I'm at work so I can't post my 3dmark results with one card, but it was very close to that. So there is no way that your card outperforms TWO of mine

Which brand new released card had drivers that didn't suck? As stated before, nVidia's drivers did suck also when the 8800 just came out. However, that wasn't as obvious as is with ATI now, since the card itself was so powerful, it beat most competition in most benchmarks anyways, so everyone was excited despite the bad drivers.

Now, there is a comparable card on the market. It makes only sense that with a new release, drivers aren't going to be good (just like a BIOS often leaves to be desired). There are just too many configurations in the wild, and neither company can test all possible configurations of CPU/MoBo/RAM etc... Drivers will improve. Performance will improve. Some say it won't by a lot, but look at the 8800's: with the newest drivers, performance took a jump, esp. the GTS.

Price: The 2900XT can be bought for not too much over $400: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...nd&Order=PRICE

The 8800GTS as cheap as a bit under $300:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...nd&Order=PRICE

That's $100 difference, but hey... which new release wasn't priced high? As usual, prices will come down.

It's a new card. It needs some time. Question is, does AMD/ATI have this time with nVidia's fierce competition?

No, not at all...I'm saying it's a new card and the drivers are fresh, it'll take a bit of time for them to progress, just like nvidia. New cards/drivers take time, just give a bit to ATi and I'm sure they will pull themselves back up just fine.
