This is getting insane. ._. - Page 3

Doesn't the bios report lower temps than TAT and coretemp? Mine sure does, it sometimes says i'm almost at room temp, which i know can not be right.

Anyways maybe, just maybe, your CPU is convex, and you heatsink was concave, and now that you lapped it your heatsink is flat while your CPU is convex.
Maybe?

You could lap the CPU, but then if you really think there is a problem that = no RMA!

Pics of proper way to apply AS5, would be great...especially from those who get LOW TEMPS!!!

I been trying all kinds of different methods with AS5 / MX-1 . So far, what works best for me is to apply some paste to both heatsink and cpu. I usually cut out a square piece of plastic from the cpu box. Then put a small ball of AS5 or MX-1 onto the HS. Press down with the square piece of plastic and drag across....do it a few times and i usually get a nice, smooth area. Then i do a similar process on the cpu....not too worried about a perfect square cause the pressure should even it out, once mounted.

Some people say to just put a (rice-size) chunk of as5 in the middle of cpu and then install HS...it should just spread out...but that seems kinda a lazy/****ty effort there hehe.

Sorry, I got no pics of my process...but would love to hear from anyone else on the subject too!!!

Did you inspect carefully to see that its flat?
I use a geek stainless steel pocket ruler, hold it up to a light and see if the light shows through at 4 different locations. Corner to corner the the opposite corners, side to side then the oposite side. I do the same with the IHS too even though I've no yet chosen to lap them, just to check.

this is what ArticSilver suggests...

a thin string like line of paste...right down the middle...you can see that is where the core sits...

dude, my e6300 runs 55 at idle, and people before told me "thats normal with stock cooler" NO it is not normal, and my cpu is not lapped, it is perfectly flat (measured) so *** is wrong with mine? I made sure that the heatsink is on.

So dude, it could be that we just got hot chips....

That is actually the recommended way of doing it, not the lazy way, I did it this way and it brought my temps down on my qx6700 considerably. You do not want to smear it all around yourself. Do more of a pea sized amount, or do the line like AS5 website says that is also a good way, then when you are putting the heatsync on rotate the heatsync a degree or two to the left and then a degree or two to the right then straighten it out and screw it in tight.

I had huge issues with my stock heatsync fan and was re seating my cpu, cleaning, and applying AS5 all day and night so trust me and try this, if none of that works its your cpu.

"Fake" pictures really don't help...How "high" is the line?

I'm being stupid here, but I've tried to use guides like that but they don't really help me because I don't have a 100% set "rule" to go by.

*edit*
One thing I don't get is that my idle temps are about the same/1-2C higher unlapped caseless vs lapped caseless; but my loads are the same / 1C lower. :***:

Pook, have you tried PC Probe 2, the program that ASUS supplied with your board? In my tests I have found it to be accurate with TAT +/- 3 degrees.

man there is something off there for it to be 50c idle, unless its just a hot chip in that case you shoulda rma'd it before you lapped it, but it sounds like you tried everything and if its still at like 42c @1.2 vcore like you said then you could try and go water other than that, and the hsf is making good contact and tight contact with cpu right, like after it is mounted you can't move it at all not even slightly twist it. I mean no jiggle to it at all. besides what has already been said i can't think of much else to try.
