I Need Help!

Thread Starter
I just got done assembling a C2D(e6320 stock settings, stock cooler) machine with 2 gigs of RAM. I have not installed the OS because I checked the BIOS (Intel BOXD946GZISSL LGA 775 Intel 946GZ Micro ATX board) and it said that the temp. is at 47C, and that is just at the BIOS level! I don't want to thrash my system by installing Vista and XP on it.

What should I do?

Is that normal temperatures for a BIOS reading?

Begging for suggestions....my woman needs this for Photoshop/Illustrator and I need the machine for C++/HTML programming...so any help is greatly appreciated!

Hmm... I've always noticed the BIOS reports a REALLY high CPU temp but I've never worried bout it myself since it was fine and stable in Windows even OCed. IMHO, install your operating system of choice, and then check the temps. If they're like that at idle in Windows, then you got problems.

Welcome to the forum.
Please fill the rest of your computer's specs Here.

While you are in BIOs, your computer is underload. Though 47C is a bit high. I only get 32C. Keep in mine that the temp you are seeing may not be correct.

I would remount the heat sink and see if it is still the same. If it is, I would wait until someone say it is self to install your OS.

Personally, I would install the OS.

It's a little high, but not alarmingly.

Note that tems in BIOS are higher than idle. BIOS does put a substantial load on the CPU (used to be 80%, probably less with dual core CPUs).

You're good to go to at least install Windows. Then get Intel TAT or Core temp to check the idle temps in Windows.

make sure the stock cooler is installed properly. It's easy to not have pushed it down hard enough. All four pins need to 'click' in place.

Usually, the best way to install is is by pushing the pins in a 'cross-like' way. Thus, first top-left, then bottom right, then top right, and finally bottom left.

Hope this helps.

*** bios puts load on your PC?

Never even imagined that.

My bios reports lower temps than TAT does because of the whole dualcore thing. Don't all bios's with dual cores do that?

Wow, you guys reply fast! But yes, my heatsink is fastened into place. I heard the "clicks". I know how to put computers together, A+ certified, I just couldn't seem to find a base temp. for this processor, but I'll go ahead and install Vista on Monday and then let you all know how it went.
Tanks a Lot!

After you have installed Vista, download TAT and CoreTemp as said by Chozart. Then tell us your temps.

The safe temp limit is 60C (according to Intel even)

Get this rig up and running, and report back with temps once you're in a Windows environment.

Some argue that even higher temps are acceptable, but I don't agree with that.

If temps remain high, an aftermarket cooler might be an option.
