Check under Device Manager/Hardware Manager in Windows, if your sound card doesn't show up, its prolly dead. Did you happen to disable it in the BIOS?

could this be the problem?

i tried to play a sample music and i get this error:

Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

what the hell is that? it wont let me play any music.

hi all. still no sound, it is the integrated sound card on my mobo. here is what i did yesterday:

> installed a new cpu cooler

> installed the 2nd 8800 GTS 640

i think my mobo reset itself. i had to change a position of a "card" on the mobo to enable sli. i booted up when all the hardware was in place and all my settings are back to default.

here is when things go bad. i tried to play bf2 and there is NO SOUND. i tried to play an mp3 and that error (posted above) shows up.

i checked and rechecked all connections are in place.

i thought i needed to update my nforce chipset drivers, i downloaded and installed and still no sound.

i installed realtek drivers and still no sound.

does anyone have any suggestions? its not fun playing without sound.

go into the sound panel make sure all the stuff is set high, and not muted. other than that you might have to set the codec back to WMPcodec to be 1st in audio codecs. then make sure the drivers are all good, and enabled in the mobo if any options are needed there.

you could also go to wal mart and buy an audgy se for 30$ and that will sound better then the onboard.
