You don't need to look for a resistor at all, it's built-in to the fan. Just hardwire it to the molexes and you should see results.

V=I x R
I= V/R
R=V/I

Where V=voltage, I=current and R=resistance, dunno if this will help you out?
Also i remeber reading somwhere that 10k rotary pots seem to the the job ok on 12v fans.

If your getting two of the SS 121 fans, they come with reostats. Just mount both of them to a PCI slot cover and be done with it on the cheep

but the 121s are 20 dollars from newegg versus 3 dollars a potentiometer and this isnt for a computer build

hey just found this site, doesnt have anything on poteniometers as such, but use's a technique with switches and the the +12v and +5v lines (thus giving 7 volts and reducing speed), check it out http://www.fanbus.com/faq/fanfaq.htm
