slow startup....slow shutdown...zzz...

Thread Starter
As the title says, i am having some problems whereby startup and shutdown are painfully slow.
Basically, i start my PC and it zooms through the BIOS until it reaches the Windows XP loading screen. It will sit there for about 10-15 seconds with the bar moving across the screen, but no hard disk activity. Then, all of a sudden, the hard disks will kick in and it will load. I have triedsome tweaks to try and sort this out: reduced startup processes in MsConfig, enabled fast start up in TweakXP, defragged and a few others, but to no avail. Im pretty sure it isnt right, because my old RAID0 setup loaded XP in 3 seconds, and all i have done is changed the disks from Maxtors to Seagates.
When i get to shut my PC down, it logs me off, but then stays on that light blue background fo roughly 20-25 seconds with HD activity on full before finally powering down.
Whats wrong with me?????

Thanks!

Yup, with my two SATAII Maxtor drives, the loading bar would go across about 2-3 times, then the login screen would appear. It was so fast. Dunno why its taking so long now.

I still have this problem ever since I got my build together. I tried bootvis and everything.

Mine does the same thing, but only in XP. Vista loads in under 1 second, but XP takes 16 loading bars.

Try this: http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

Or Do this with bootvis:

The first thing we want to do is download Microsoft's bootvis.exe utility. After downloading, open the self-extracting archive where it'll be extracted automatically to your TEMP folder. For ease, just copy it to your Desktop.

Start the utility and under File, choose "Next Boot Trace" or, "Next Boot and Driver trace". A "Trace Repetitions" screen will appear. Just click "Ok' and you'll be prompted to re-boot.

When your system comes up again, bootvis will automatically start and generate a file similar to TRACE_BOOT+DRIVERS_1_1.BIN. When it's done, choose Trace from the menu and select Optimize System. Allow it to re-boot again. This time when your system comes up, wait a few minutes until you see the Optimizing System box appear. Wait a few moments and the process is complete.
