Interesting and pretty thorough review of the V8. Interesting that at load that the V8 consumes less power than a 4x4 system, even with the FB-DIMMs.

Is the power consumption comparing using K9 or K10 4x4?

I just checked the cost of the needed 4x1GB FB-DIMM ... $700 and that's DDR2-667.
Once again...

FB-DIMMS get a bad rap and rightfully so, considering their deplorable price/performance ratio compared to ddr2 sdram. But 700 seems a bit much they can be had for as low as

2x1 gb kingston fb-dimm fully buffered ddr2 667 @ 182.99

or

2gb kingston fb-dimm fully buffered ddr2 @ 193.99

Twice the cores + FB DIMMs and it still uses less power. Sad...

Man just wait til Tigerton...4 quads = 16 cores!
Very nice!

WOW. that took a while to go through. but i don't wanna see 4x4 systems, i wanna see octo core!

Looks promiseing, though a V8 system isn't something I'd go purely down to the cost. Hopefully they'll work on a system that doesn't need EPP RAM and with better dual graphics support.

Before anyone else says it;

Intel's V8 is crap because it uses the bus architecture and the Barelona will stomp all over it even though there are no benchmarks to validate my statement!

Heh, Barcelona won't be competing with Core 2 Duo. By the time it comes out, its competition with be Core 7 Octet.
