Interesting First Build Problem...

Thread Starter
Hey all, So I just tried my hand at my very first DIY project...its the build in my sig...but anyway I put it all together yesterday and went to start it up for the first time...and everything appears to work fine..except for my video output...All that shows up on the screen is white bands and then a screen full of pulsing multicoloured squares....and that's as far as I have gotten.

I have a light on my MOBO, all my case fans work, my cpu fan works, the fan on the GPU is spinning....I can reset the computer using Ctrl+Alt+Delete...just the video output is screwed up....

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas at all I would be greatly appreciative...

Cheers!

Do you have video out on your mobo that you could try (after removing your video card)? . . any beep errors? (I assume not since it loads windows), any other video cards you can try? Any other outputs (Svideo, VGA, DVI) on your video card you can try? . . . Try those and let us know the results.

Also make sure your using the top PCI-e slot and that you double check that the PCI-e is default video in BIOS

Asus boards default to PCI, not PCI-E in BIOS! Change that, check drivers, etc. Good Luck!

Thanks for the Advice guys!....and the actual problem? Well I took it into Canada Computers (I didn't have a spare video card lying around the swap in) and they put it into their system...same result...Turns out my brand new 8800 GTS (ordered from Direct Canada a week ago) is dead! lovely
So..I am currently embarking on my first experience with online RMA's...haha wish me luck.

Cheers
