NEW P965 DS3 3.3 WON'T RUN STABLE w/ PRIME95

Thread Starter
I bought and Installed my new GA P965 DS3 rev.3.3 mobo.At first;after I Installed and ran Orthos(stress test for dual core cpu's) it ran stable for around 6 hours(with fsb increased) at which point i stopped the test.I installed a few programs and blah blah blah, but when i tried a new overclock it showed an error(hardware failure) after 5 minutes.I went into the BIOS and restored back to optimized defaults.Tried running Orthos again (and i even created 2 Instances of Prime95 to run a custom stress test)but i can't get the board to run stable for more than 5 minutes. It says that it halted because of "hardware error" but that doesn't tell me much.I don't know what that failure could be. I have contacted Gigabyte thru email tech support and am waiting for a response. But i thought i would come to the source. Can anyone shed some light on what the issue might be,or is my board on its way to RMA? Appreciate any assistance.

paulie is my buddy in alabama . he just tried failsafe settings in bios . it crashed within 2 minutes running 2 x prime 95 . i am on the phone trying to help him out . i told him to pull out the stick of patriot memory . then i will have him try the other . prime reports a hardware failure . do yall think he could have messed up his processor when he was using a ecs board (he bought the bundle from frys several months ago , like last september , and has been using the ecs since then) ? or would it not boot at all if the processer was fried ?

update #1 : crash wit one stick , changing for the other .

an update: i pulled out the mem. and tried each stick. As of 9:35pm cst.i am stable with just the one stick of patriot mem(1024). I already tried the 1gig of PNY and it halted Prime95 after 1min.So my trouble may have been a stick of memory.I'll keep my fingers & toes crossed for now and keep prime95 up & running and see how long we can go!

Indeed looks like its a ram compability issue, either your pny is faulty or just not compatible.Hope it works stable and then get rid of the pny.

yeah most likely the ram or NB getting to hot, u got a fan on the NB? if not that will help out tremendously. i doubt the cpu would be hurt unless u put absurd volts to it.

Thanx for the replys. It turned out to be the PNY mem . I have replaced it with another gig of DDR2 PNY5300.I realize I will need to upgrade to a better mem for overcloclocking;but that will have to wait for funding. In the mean time,I will just have to make due and take it easy on the overclocking. Thanx again for all the assistance.
