8600's... Worth it? - Page 2

People are generally not giving the 8600's credit.

Everyone got so power high off the 8800 cards that when the 8600 cards came out and did what a normal mid-ranged card would do, people cried bloody murder.

I don't know how people can expect the 8600GTS to do any better than it did. You want it to creep into 8800GTS territory? Why? So we can lose the 320 8800GTS like we lost the 640?

The 8600GTS is a good buy.

Get an EVGA one so you can trade it in in case you're unhappy with the performance. It's also the cheapest high quality one. The BFG ones are like $220 and I consider EVGA on par and theirs are $190.

The 8600GTS is about on par with 7900GS/1950 Pro and those are like $35-40 cheaper, so you're really just spending $35-40 for future proofing with DX10.

thanks shellofinsanity,

I was OCing mine like mad on Sunday, using driver 158.43, nTune & used ATiTool0.26 to test... I was able to go as high as 860 core, 1000 mem!! Unbelievable... the pc was stable for more than a few hours...

But then I installed ATiTool0.27 and restarted the pc and I never get over 860 for mem anymore

If you are going for DX10 get the 8600 GTS, like people said get the eVGA which offer the 90 days step up program or you can try to save up money for the 8800 GTS 320 MB which is significantly better than the 8600 GTS.

I recommend you wait to see for price drops. If your going for DX9 than I recommend you get the X1900 GT which is only 120 dollars.

8600s have their place the dx10 low-midrange card if your not planing on going to vista anytime id pass them up a 7900gs beats it. And if you get a real good card like mine volt modded 780mhz on core and 920mhz on memory i score 6641 on 3dmark 06.
