People would say C2D, but I personally prefer AMD because the perform better in things I do with PC's!What you can do is buy a good mobo with a 3600x2 and overclock it to about the same speed as a 6000+ and then later when the quad cores come out go for that! Word on the street say that the quads will be better and cheaper then C2D's

C2D is the better choice when you got 2k to blow on a computer.

If you max overclock any C2D, it will blow away that X2 6000+. There's no real reason you need a C2D for gaming though. Almost any AMD X2 will scream fast enough. Put as much money toward a GPU as you can though.

Core 2 Duo. Stock, yes, the 6000+ narrowly edges ahead in gaming, but is already blown away in 3-D rendering and such.

Both CPUs are priced similar, and they perform similar when both are at stock. However, E6600 has much more headroom for overclocking than the X2 6000+, so go for that if you're planning to overclock. It wouldn't matter which way you go if you don't overclock though.

Any REASON to go with an AMD rig?!

The Intel Core 2 Duo totally blows AMD away in every aspect.

But, the best to get is actually the cheapest: the X2 3600+ Brisbane. The AMD architecture tops out at about a bit over 3.0GHz, regardless whether you get the cheapo CPU or the most expensive one. So, just save the money, and get the cheapest.

However, for performance, I highly recommend Intel, esp. for the budget you have.
