i heard that the X2 3600 was good to get and then clock it to 3ghz-3.2ghz, would that be a cheap and easy way to go u reckon?

its funny you guys need to see where im from, my prices are double compared to yours

i have to pay about 350-500 bucks for an E6600 where i am lol and $1250 wont go a long way if i do that.

X2 3600+ Brisbane 2x 512k L2

Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe

G.Skill HZ 2x 1GB

That's pretty much it if you want a good overclocking AMD/SLI rig. The board supports x16/x16 SLI mode so it's good for 8800 SLI, although any dual-cores would be a heavy bottleneck at that point.

If you decide to go Intel/SLI, then get the eVGA 680i A1 and an E6600.

This would be my build (for AMD)

Case: COOLERMASTER CENTURION V5 ALUMINIUM-FACED MIDI-TOWER CASE Price inc GST - $129.80
CPU: AMD ATHLON64 X2 AM2 3600+LV (1.8GHZ) 64-BIT DUAL-CORE CPU Price inc GST - $123.20
HDD: 250GB SEAGATE 7200.10 7200RPM SATA-II HARD DISK Price inc GST - $129.80
RAM: CORSAIR 2048MB VALUE SELECT 240-PIN PC5300 DDR2 RAM Price inc GST - $143.00
MoBo: ASUS M2N-SLI DELUXE AMD SKTAM2 NF570 BOARD Price inc GST - $231.00
PSU: CORSAIR 520W MODULAR PSU[/URL] Price inc GST - $181.50
Video: GAINWARD GEFORCE 8600GTS 256MB DDR3 PCI-E X16 VIDEO CARD Price inc GST - $319.00

Total $1,257.30

Hey Mate... don't cheat on me... it was $2000 before I started this post

Re-doing the build...

BTW... you need monitor and whatnot also for $1250? Oh... and for that price, please forget SLI. First, there is plenty available upgrades for the video card, and you don't need SLI with high-end cards unless you have ultra resolutions.

I actually just bought this chip,,, still waiting for it to get here from the egg.

Reason being is that the wife needed a new comp so I am building one from my old opt 165 sock 939 setup...

So I decided to go for now AM2 and got the Asus 32 sli Deluxe and figured I would like a guaranteed 3 ghz with possibility of 3.5 -3.6 on my water setup for now...

I was considering just going with a intel but I want to go Agena//barcelona when it comes out so I would stick to AM2 ... I could of saved and got the 5600 but for 40 bucks less Id rather just get the 6000+

My head said Intel my heart said AMD and I figure down the road Quad core should catch us up...

Problem is that Penryn will be right on the heels of the AMD offerings

yeah its a constant back and forth but thats what makes upgrading so much fun and expensive

Either build will suit him for sure and will get the job done.

Exactly about the penyryn.

Again dude you posted in the AMD section. How do you expect everything to be biased

Anyways the x2 3600 is the best overclocker and the Intel e6300 is good (it can hit 3.2 and has a better arcitecture).

ALso those craptility mobos arn't worth it.

Psst... say 'E6320'. That's the better CPU. It has 4MB cache as opposed the 2MB of the E6300

and the ONE reason I WOULD consider AM2 is because those mobos are actually pretty darn good. I mean, you'd have to pay a ton more for an Intel board that supports SLI in x16, x16. Also, a board like the Biostar tForce 550 gives excellent performance, and is a lot cheaper than a comparable Intel board.

Finally, it's funny you say the 3600+ is the best overclocker, and then continue with the E6300 (which overclocks better than the 3600+ )
