AMD 4200+ How to OC? - Page 2

What's your budget? Get the Arctic Cooling 64 Pro if you're looking for a cheap and effective cooler. If you're willing to pay ~$50, look into the Tuniq Tower 120 , Thermalright Ultra 120, or TT Big Typhoon. IMHO, Zalman CPU coolers aren't the best at cooling or silence, but it does look very nice.

$50 is my budget, I was looking at Zalman cause everyone was saying their great, but if that Artic one is better Ill get that. Friday is my payday so I have a couple days to make up my mind. I was looking at the ZALMAN CNPS 9500 , they have the 9700 for another $15, but it doesnt seem that much different.

Within your budget:
Scythe SCNJ-1100P (Around $40)
Thermalright Ultra 120 (Around $50, but you will need a 120mm fan)

If you are going to overclock my advice would be to wait another payday and get a high quality, efficient cooler. If you opt for the cost savings now you may find yourself buying another one anyway to support your OC.

I was reading lots of reviews on all the coolers, and the ThermalRight Ultra 120 Cooler got some excellent reviews. Neoseeker reviews said it was better then some beginner water cooling kits, I might go with that, unless anyone else has some better opinions.

I use the Ultra 120 on my sig rig and temps are about 26c idle and 37c load. There is also a new Ultra out the Ultra 120 Extreme. It has additional heat pipes and the reviews seem good. About $10 more. I see no need to change the one I have, it handles my rig fine.

One point I did not mention. For the Ultra 120 to be able to mount on a K8 platform in the proper orientation (air flow front to back) you need to get the optional "S" mount. It is a very good mount and worth the extra $.

As we used to say in the drag racing days "Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?".

I have the 9500AM2 but I can tell ya that extra 15 on the 9700 is worth it. The 9700 puishes close to 6000CFM, I think it is 5830 to be exact. Where as the 9500 pushes 3800CFM I believe.

I'd get the Tuniq or Thermalright with that budget. If you decide to go with the Thermalright, svc.com combines shipping so you can save some money there.
