Sorry dude, you are probably out of luck. If the phone was off at the time of the swim party, you would have had a chance. Normally you only run into problems with something that is running when it gets wet or started before it is dry. Even if the phone was off at the time, you didn't wait long enough to turn it back on. Electronic equipment should be dried for several days, preferrably under a fan (heat might cause damage). If there was still moisture while a current was run through the circuitry, it is likely toast.

I would just ebay something, or borrow a friends old phone and unlock it.

Rinse it out in lots of alcohol, and don't mention it was water that killed it...

I dropped my old Samsung in the toilet - I called T-mobile and they told me to take out the battery and put it in the oven at 150-200 degrees for about 2 hours on some tin foil. It actually somewhat fixed the phone - some things were a bit wonky, like the display - but I could send and recieve calls.

Its worth a shot if it doesn't work.

Good luck with Sprint. My wife dropped her cell in the sink. Went to a Sprint repair shop. They said they wouldn't cover water damage. Plus they didn't actually repair phones. Sent us to a Sprint store. Waited for 45 minutes with no help. Went to another sprint store. Cheepest phone was close to $150. Went home, tried e-bay. Found same phone for $20. Called Sprint to see if they would activate it if I bought it. Sprint refused. Had to go back to store and paid the $150 price. No discounts, no nothing for being a customer for over 3 years. just gimme money. Would have gone elsewhere but wife works at Wal-mart and Sprint offered a 14% discount for Wal-Mart employees.

Ok guys let me tell you how it is. Water damage = phone is screwed. Here's what you can do:
  • Insurance aka ERP (equipment replacement program) does cover water damage.
  • ESRP aka In store service & repair (my day job) does not cover water damage.
You have a couple options. If you have insurance you just call them up, pay a $50 deductible over the phone via credit card and they ship you a new phone. You'll get the same 640 because it's still widely available at the warehouse.

If you have no insurance or ESRP and have had your phone for less than a year then you're eligible to buy a "preowned" phone. These are phones that are in new condition and we returned by customers who only had them less than a month. They sell for half the full retail price of the phone.

PM me and I'll see if I can overnight you a preowned phone to your nearest sprint store and get that replaced for you if you're eligible. I work in the highest volume store in SoCal so I have pretty much anything at my fingertips.

btw, Krunk that i500 is one of the crappiest phones ever made by Samsung.

Props to you my friend.

I took off the back of it, took out the battery, placed it on my dash for about 7 hours...works perfectly now.

Thanks alot. Lucky me I guess
