John- I'm not sure if current boards will support Penryn processors. I was kinda worried, then I stopped and just decided if not then I'll rip my HDD's out of this PC and just build another. My concern is when native Quads will hit, more-so.
Well seeing as he only has a 160gb hdd, I would assume he does not do a lot of video editing or of the sort. And the fact that he has a 8800 GTS means he does more gaming than anything else. So for him, getting a e6600 would be the wiser choice since it would outperform a q6600 in gaming once it's oc'd to its full potential. Whereas, the q6600 would be greatly limited by the heat it produces.

Yeah. I am a hardcore gamer You could say. All I use a PC for is OCN and games.

I want a quad core after seeing Alan Wake vids ... it runs best in Quad Core. How d'ya think it'll run in Dual Core .. say for example an E6600 o/ced to 3.2 Ghz or beyond? I really want this game.

You didn't say there was no point for him to get it. You just said no point. =P It became a general statement, for the world even.

<33

And I actually still disagree on E6600 being the wiser choice. Q6600 will have new stepping, cooler temps, and will be priced right. An on-air clock fo 3.2ghz for sure, not to mention quad core already for the future.

I'd say get a Q6600 regardless.

Well if that's the game you plan on playing than a quad core WILL be better. I'm not sure how much better but nevertheless it will perform better. If I were you I would just stick with your current processor until the next wave of price drops from intel which would put the q6600 at $266US.

I'm selling this PC in a week or so. I already have the buyer and can't let him down now. Sideburns .. One clue: 1GB RAM And I can't afford more.

So it's either the two poll choices. It has to be one.

If i were u i would just save up and get the Q6600, because its may now. its almost june, then july, there's no point in wasting money because you can't wait.

if you have money you want to use, invest it in something else. like a better graphics card or ram, or something else.

and i dont' even see prices the for E6600 dropping.

Better graphics card than the 8800GTS?

What you don't understand is I won't have this week in 2 weeks or so. I need another one.
