i was running smp on linux with vmware installed and it worked flawlessly but i was tired of having vmware allways running in the background when it wasnt on so i got rid of it, now i am running smp windows and it has given me nothing but problems, sometimes itll complete wu's and other times i get random stoppage for various reasons, itll just stop a wu and start allover again,

i cant play games with it running and most other apps give me seriouse problems when it is running,

and i know my system is stable over 8 hours orthos which should be good to go for folding,

So I got home today and my rig I had spoke of earlier had died on the same WU again 2 times more. Thats a total of 5 crashes on the same WU at the exact same % lasting a few days now.

I had read today on Stanfords site that the assignment servers are only supposed to give you the same WU 3 times in a row max. So I thought well that cant be right, I have had the same WU die 5 times. Further research revealed that while this is in beta (pretty much all the SMP is in beta and this one is on a native linux box), the assignment server dont always recognize the 3 strikes your out policy on assignment. The administrator suggested if you get the same WU again, just delete it, until you get a different one. He also said that WUs that crash in the exact same spot each time are issues with the WU and your system. They do ask that you post your log file with your specs so that they can debug the issue.

A quote from the FAH folding forums link
Quote:
I see two fundamental issues here.

1) Your WU Project: 3036 (Run 5, Clone 26, Gen 19) contains a set of conditons which leads to an error (EUE). A certain percentage of WUs can be expected to end early, and the fact that the error is identical each time confirms that it's a problem with the WU itself rather than a problem with your hardware. Only because of issue 2 (below) would you know that. Ordinarily, the WU would be assigned to someone else to confirm whether it's a hardware issue or the WU, itself, and you would only see one error.

2) In most cases, after an EUE, the client collects the resulting data and uploads it, providing feedback to the server about the nature of the error and providing a limited number of points. When you run beta cores, not all errors are captured, and you get a message Deleting current work unit & continuing... . Since no results were uploaded, the server assumes that the WU was corrupted during download and it reassigns the same WU. This can happen (I think) three times and then the server will assign a new WU.

I'll be sure that the development team has seen your bug report. Hopefully a new core can be created which uploads the appropriate error report so the repeated assignments will no longer happen. They'll probably use this WU as a test case.
Fishie,
You may just have had a bad string of WUs that did not work well with the many variables of your system build. Hope you have better luck in the future.
