Quad Core Overclocks/Temps/Hardware thread: For future reference.

Thread Starter
So that when the price drop happens and the slew of new Quad owners appear, this thread'll be here so that you guys know what we all got out of ours.

Check my thread here:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...ould-they.html

As of today I'm sitting at:

3.0Ghz 1.325v. My idles are 38c - 40c, my load temps are 58c - 59c in Orthos after 11hours. That's been done twice over this weekend, so it's officially stable. I actually never saw 60c like I thought I would and I was playing CS and web surfing during the Orthos test. I'm assuming that's even more stress.

AS of now, I only have original case fans and my Enzotech Ultra. my Ambient/Room temps are about 80f during the day, 70G during night times. My ORthos x 2 tests were done during the day.

I've ordered Case fans from Cyber-Druid and hope to get more out of it soon.

Post up your results.

QX6700, Overclocked to 3.2Ghz, 1.356v
Idle: 39C Load: 69C (4x 8k Small FFTs tests)

I don't get why my load temp is so damn high.. I'm guessing its the QX6700, your idles are the same as mine but my load temp is 7C hotter! It did this on the Enzotech Ultra-X as well....

Murlocke I had an issue when I first mounted my Enzotech as well and to-date, have re-mounted/seated a total of eight (8) times. I remember other members saying to point the heat-pipes toward the ram... I turned them toward the case fan, did line across AS-5 and my load temps dropped.

I'm going to re-seat again after I install the two fans if the temps don't drop for me. This time, heatpipes facing toward the top of the case.

Sadly my dominator ram is just to tall to do that

I don't have the dominator fan either.

There was only 1 direction to mount my enzo, heatpipes going up. No other way fit, either the ram, or the 680i mobo got in the way

I sent it back and got a refund...

Theres a reason why the big typhoon is a bit taller, If the enzotech was 1/4 inch taller It would of fit.

You know what? I think one of the reviews actually had the same problem with the 680i and Enzotech. They ended up having to modify a LANparty board, as well.

=\\ That sucks man. Maybe try a Tuniq or something to get better temps out of it?

Was that your lowest vCore possible? I'm gonna gun for 1.3v tonight and hope to see a 1c or 2c drop as well.

Yea 1.35v was unstable, and 1 more notch up works..

I have absolutely no money atm, I wonder if I turned the big typhoon so the heatpipes were on the sides, other then the top and botton, if it would make a difference...

Man, I'd try it honestly. At least you'd know. I moved my Enzotech so much, used different amounts of paste and I'm still thinking that I'm not doing it right because all the reviews say completely different from what I'm getting.

Definitely try it, at least you'll get to repaste again.

ok heres some questions. As most of you know my PC in my sig just completely died so I'm screwed...

I'm thinking about just jumping to a Q6600. If I do this what is the best MB for me to get and is it worth it for me? I've heard they are harder to OC then a E6600 and as it stands my E6600 was over 70c only clocked to 2.7 ghz (in short I suck at overclocking) so should I save money and just get another E6600 or what? I really do want to go 64bit Vista though just b/c of direct X 10 and I plan on buying a 8800GTX tomorrow.

After about a week after re-seating my TT 120 Extreme using Arctic Silver 5 (goop method), I've seen my temps stabilize as the compound settles.

Q6600 @ 3240, 1.344Vcore: IDLE 44C, 4xPrime95 LOAD 56-61C (varies by core)

My understanding is in 2H Intel is dropping the price of the Q6600. Most games or office applications can't take advantage of 4 CPUs (yet) - Photoshop should have a noticable improvement. NLE's benefit greatly. As an example, when I encode mpeg2 using CCE it now runs at speed of 5-8 and only uses 1/3 the CPU. Sony Vegas rendering mpeg4 at 1080p peaks all 4 cores. So if you happen to be in the market for an HD Camcorder I would highly recommend it. Otherwise you would probably be fine saving money and settling for a good value in E6600 putting the savings towards a better gaming card.

Overclocking will have limitations based on heat dissipation, but a solid motherboard, power supply, and most importantly heatsink, etc. will help this.

After examining the Asus Striker and a few others I personally am extremely pleased with my EVGA mobo. The key feature is locking the memory timings totally independantly of the CPU settings. Not sure how many other mobos have this feature. I would also be curious to other peoples success with P965 and Q6600.
