First Time OCing Core 2 Duo - Have a Few Questions

Hey All:

First off, I should say I'm an experienced overclocker, I just haven't OCed an intel proc since an old Pentium 4 way back about 4 - 5 years ago. So, I've kind of lost track of some of the nuances...

The build I'm doing for someone has the following components:

Mobo: Asus P5B
Proc: E6600 Conroe
Mem: 2 x 1 GB A-Data Vitesta DDR2 800
VGA Card: EVGA 8800 GTS
Sound: X-Fi Fata1ty
etc...

etc....

The issues I'm having:

1) So far the temps have been superb - the proc is running 27c idle/45c load. HOWEVER, speed fan lists some temp titled "AUX." It shows up as 129C!!!!!!!! I've touched all my main components - VGA card, proc, mem, etc..., and they are all cool/warm to the touch - not anywhere near 130C. What could this be?

2) THE MULTIPLIER KEEPS FLIPPING BETWEEN 6x - 9x. The Windows system screen shows the proc running @2.4GHZ, but when I load CPU-Z, it flips between 6x - 9x depending on load. I'm sure this is just some setting in the BIOS, but I couldn't find it. How do I disable this?

3) What are the recommended manufacturer voltages and temps? I can't find them on Intel's site and I want to know this before I start really OCing.

THanks guys!

1) It's a bogus temp reading in Speedfan, ignore it. Use Coretemp to measure the temps.

2) Disable C1E/Speedstep in the bios.

3) E6600 stock voltage 1.325v, recommended max voltage 1.35v (according to Intel). If you have good air cooling up to 1.5v is fine, watch the temps.

Ok, so no responses yet... (yup, I'm impatient)...

I guess what's puzzling me the most is the randomly-changing multiplier.

WHen the system is under load, it runs at the reference 9 x 266 speed.

But as soon as the system idles, the bios throttles it back to 6 x 266.

As stated, I'm sure this is some powersaving feature in the bios (It's an ASUS p5b mobo) - HOW DO I TURN IT OFF?!!?

Nothing major.

If I can get the fsb/divider to work I'm looking for around 3.0GHZ on the proc and around 840MHZ on teh mem.

Let the ram run 1:1 (first option), then set the cpu multiplier to x7 and your FSB to 429 and you'll run at 3.0Ghz and 858mhz memory if the board and memory can handle that.
