Gaming w/ WINE?

Thread Starter
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience using WINE to game with. Like... DOD:S or CS:S? Those are the only games I play, and unfortunately, the only reason I have Windows at home. At work, I use a few different Linux boxes and would really like to dump Windows at home altogether--but I don't know if it's worth giving up my two favorite games...... =/ Any input? Stats? Experiences? Thanks...

Source Games work fine with WINE, from my experience. It should work fine.
You should dual-boot at first before you remove Windows to make sure.

I have never gotten WINE to run anything remotely well. I have tried WC3 and WoW through it (both of which nativly support OpenGL rendering, btw), and they both sucked worce then a $5 whore in Atlantic City

Your best bet is to dual-boot Windows XP for games and keep Linux for everything else.

Wine is a reverse engineered Windows API that allows you to run some Windows applications with more or less "okay" support. Some companies have created programs based off of Wine to run specific applications with much better support. Cedega is based off Wine and is for gaming, which I suggest you check out because it supports a wide range of games.

People hijacked my thread. Yes I know how much fun CS:S is. Anyway, back to my original question.... does anyone have any actual experience getting this to work? What are the FPS like, etc....? Thanks

I've heard they don't perform well, but JohnRogers has experience and said they work fine. I would go with his suggestion of dual booting to make sure they perform OK.
