Need an AGP card to extend life of comp...

Thread Starter
Yes, i know AGP is dead and most will say a waste of money..... Still though, i can't afford $1000 for a brand new setup right now. So i'd like to squeeze out another year on what i have.

Big question is would the Nvidia 7950GT or the ATi 1950GT do the best with my cpu? I understand that bottlenecking will occur. I figure i'd just keep my p4 on a constant 3.5ghz clock, bout all the more i can get safely and consistantly.

Comments and suggestions please!

flash ur GT to an ultra and get an vf700 or AC silencer... if taht really can't hold you over i strongly suggest a x1950GT...

it's basically a crippled pro, and supposedly can OC like mad. wight wanna see if u can get a nice aftermarket cooler too.

Well here's is the best performing AGP on the market, it's a Radeon X1950XT which is better then the 7950GT

Keep it low budget for saving for your future upgrade.
Either a 7600GS or 7600GT.
GameOn....

a 6800ultra performs a bit better than a 7600GS if i recall...

I think the x1950gt has potential. not too pricy, good stock performance, and teh possibility of an OC to make it beat a 7950GT 256mb

keep your 6800GT and get a VF-700 like they said, my old GT did 450/1200 with one, and a bios volt mod to 1.5V instead of 1.3V, try that and if you still dont like it, the 7800GS or the 1950pro are your best bets to stay cheap

i have a zalman copper HF w/ AS5 on my 6800GT as it stands, and its already maxed out the clock =( I guess i didnt get lucky on my card. I've seen others being WAAAAAY more OC'd than mine, but mine artifacts too far past where it is now.

So yea... The reason i was lookin at the 7950GT was b/c of the 512mb of vram which will keep all games in the near future relatively free from texture lag. And the added 8 pixel pipes can't hurt either

I've been reading the reviews of the ATi x19xx cards, and ALL of them say it overheats in 15min and causes a reboot! Screw that, i'm not dealing with that sorta BS. So i'm thinking i'll stay nvidia since their cooling solutions dont have people screaming ***?!

Like i said before...I'm at least 1 year off from really being able to save for a brand new setup.

Thanks for all the input guys!
