E6420 or E6320

Thread Starter
I'm debating on whether or not to get either of these two processors only I dont know the difference other than the speeds. Is one known to have a better stepping to make for better overclocking? Because overclocking ability is what matters in my case.

I'm not happy with my 6320...If I had a 6420 I'd be MUCH happier...I'm having trouble getting my MB to allow me past about 390MHz, which on a 6320 is only 2.73GHz, but on a 6420 it would be 3.1+. If you want to spend the money, it will allow you to get to the speeds faster with less OC on everything else that CAN be tempermental (like it is for me!) (see my troubles here:http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...c-results.html)

Since it's not all that large of a cpu upgrade, have you considered waiting to see what the new Peryn, Barcelona, and DDR3 bring to the table? Your cpu should be more than enough to hold out until then. I'm still using a single core San Diego and I don't have any problems or hesitations with anything I do/play yet.

That will be the best time to go to a very good dual core, or even better, a quad core - the prices are going to becoming very cheap this summer...

I'm gonna get the 64, because i find $20 to be worth an extra multi. The next step is the 66, but that's $40 more for another multi up. I don't find that to be worth it. That's why i say the 64 is the best deal.

i have my E6420 L709A (which is one of the newer steppings at newegg) at 3.4ghz on 1.42v - there has to be much more left in this thing - but I think my PSU is the weak point.
