Could I really benefit from another 2 GBs?

well now ive been speculating why my computer is suffering from performance issues. now granted, these are not HUGE issues, but enough to bother me. for example, a 3dmark06 score of 12909. terrible for my system by anyones standard.

i have identified my current revision of my mobo basically choking the FSB and impeding performance of the cpu, but my main question is..would 2 more gigs really be benificial at this point in time? i am running vista, so i started getting suspicious of ram.

any ideas on this?

Not really, no. It won't be the RAM. Tests like that are based on actual size of the RAM, not capacity (although 4GB would get you a LITTLE higher).
The only time you're really going to need 4GB is when more memory-hungry games come out, but until then, you're fine with 2.
Oh, by the way, Windows Vista 32-bit can only read up to 3.5 GB of memory.

In vista, yes
In XP, no

Its not going to improve your 3dmark06 score in anyway in vista or XP though. 3DMark06 doesnt need more then 1gig of ram.

And...12,909 isnt terrible.. thats really good for your system..
I get 12,100 with 1 card.

Yes it is, The reason is because 2.66 Ghz creates a HUGE bottleneck on the cards.

I gain 2-4FPS (with sli ON compared to OFF) in 3dmark06 with my processor at 2.66, as soon as I overclock to 3.2ghz my score shoots up to 16,500.

You are going to have to overclock some if you want good SLI results. Instead of getting another 2GB ram i'd recommend a high end air cooler.

Yeah, anything below 3.0'ish GHz on a C2 massively bottlenecks the 8800's

wow...

this is how it works...

windows xp 32 bit 4 gigs max... doesn't really use it
windows xp 64 bit 8 gigs max... doesn't really use it

vista 32 bit 4 gigs max... uses it for the most part...
vista 64 bit 8 gigs max... not sure if it fully utilizes it...
good enough

For what you have in the rest of your rig. An additional 2GB for your system would be great. Make sure to turn off your HD pagefiling tho.
