I'd say the Pentium D, even if something isn't optimised for the Dual Core, the one core will handle the background processes letting the game run faster

The Pentium D benchmarks usually over double the P4 ones, but you have to think whether that is worth the trouble when C2D is available. Being your Sig says you have a C2D, I'm surprised you're entertaining the idea of small upgrade like that.

Thread Starter
i am just asking because the machine i have the 6600 on is XP. i want to play halo2, but that is only for vista. the computer i have that installed on i have a choice of a pentiumD or p4. i am just not ready to put vista on my C2D rig permanently. i did when it first came out and wasn't happy with the performance. so i switched back to xp. but i have vista installed on a computer i use for basically web browsing. so i figure i'll just play halo2 on that. right now i have the pentiumD in it. i thought it was the better of the two. just wanted some opinions. thanks for the replies.

I thought the pentium Ds had a lot of problems?

Why would you go from a newer processor to an older one?
