I just now installed my first Vista OS and frankly it seems identical to XP in it's core functionality...what exactly am I missing?

.......nothing much.... I know what you mean. I installed it on my laptop and then uninstalled is the next week. I ran some much slower in some cases than WinXP Pro. Some things with the Networking are new, and directX 10 of course(If you had DirectX 10 hardware).

Ya'll beat me to it

So .... I am guessing that unless you have a $400 gfx card you won't be seeing much benefit from DX10?

The "Gadgets" is a rip-off of MacOSX Widgets. The search in the start menu is a rip-off of "spotlight", and basically every other feature that was added was ripped off MacOSX.

There's nothing to miss... since the ol' blue screen is still around.

I am not a Vista owner, but with all the information I know of,

Vista = Gamer's OS
Why? DX10.

That's the only reason why I see myself getting Vista.

How about "compatibility mode" for SW...is that still an option--I literally just loaded Vista an hour ago and am trying to see if I can make the Abit uGuru SW work...it is really useful stuff for controlling all those fans...

Can I just install it and make it run in compatibility mode?

The 3D trash in Vista slows down the card when playing games.

Disabling the 3D trash causes the computer to act unusually slow.

Everyone knows that someone will create a patch or program for XP that'll let DX10 run on it...
