oh yeah the fx 5950 has a big one, but I honestly don't think its the fan, I bencked my 9700pro just for kicks it did 4700 in 3dmark 03 and 11k in 3d mark 01se vs the 5950s score of 5200 in 03 and 9k in 01se.

Why couldn't it be the fan? Why not just add some grease to it? Fans get old and stick overtime. It's good for it anyway.

I've made completely non-functional "blowers" (those pci slot fans for gfx cards) work like new by adding some bearing grease.

Well because the noise changes in pitch way to much to be the fan, even when the fan is on high and its on the desktop or if you pause a game the noise goes away its when your playing games you hear wierd noises, I wish I had a good mic and I could record and show you guys.

just for the hell of it, I shoved the fx5950 in my intel system and disabled L3 and the fx 5950 was able to run half life at high levels on the 2400 I was only able to run medium levels with both the fx5850 and the 9700 pro, I think the problem is even though i got the 2400 overlocked to 2.17 ghz it has to run on ddr 266 ram and a 266 bus, what I really need is to get some DDR 400 ram and a Nforce 2 or KT400 based board, overlclocked my at 2.17 the super pi 2m score is 2 mins 19 seconds while my friends 2500 barton overlcoked does that in 1 min 45secs which is much better, so basically my board and slow FSB is bottlenecking everything.
