(Dr.) Bottlenecks: Or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Just Buy the GPU - Page 7

Thank you, you basically just saved me a hundred dollars.

For a midline build I was gonna get a C2D and a 8600GTS but this now convinced me that I only need a half-decent CPU to do everything I wanted. Now I am getting a 8800GTS and a X2 4000+ (w/ A64 for OC'ing). Hopefully I can get it somewhere around 3.0 Ghz and I'll be able to do most of the current generation stuff on it.

Also I have been arguing this point with my friend for a long time and this finally convinced him that the monitor limits the framerate of games almost always.

+rep for you.

Here's an easy way to get rid of the monitor bottleneck...

GET A CRT MONITOR! There's nothing smoother than gaming at 85+fps. LCD's just don't compare.

So true! plus nothing is more impressive than dual CRT screens (im not kidding, thats what I use)

unfortunately im still limited to 75hz, but this might change my decision from a conroe to a pentium d... saves me a TON of money and a mobo! Thanks duke

Ehh 170 for a e4400 or 100 for a p4 d 3.2, but then for c2d theres also price of 180 for a DS3 :S And if I save the ~250$ there I could get maybe a 8800GTS and some ram or hardrive... intruiging. But would a 3.2GHz dual core hold up in games for a while?
