Ideas on this build.

Ok so I just got a job *hooraay* and I am like a mid-ranged gamer. I don't mind playing on default settings for some games (unless the difference is major then I want to go max) I normally play on 1024x768 for my games.. I would play higher as long as I get good frames.

Ok so I refuse to spend more then $1,000 on this system. I want to to be upgradable and DirectX 10 ready. I'm not sure if I should stay with AMD or go with Intels C2D.. Well the AMD build is $900 and it's in my sig.. Anyone think I could get better for under 1 grand?

Very nice for $900 (including monitor and keyboard/mouse I assume...)

Core 2 Duo is a possibility, but at a price... and yeah, you will get better performance with an E4300, but ... not *that* much (esp. in gaming).

Plus the E4300 costs $45 extra, and a decent mobo (gigabyte DS3) adds another $20.

from me

PS: if you want to invest more into anything.... get an 8800GTS. The difference is pretty startling.

Thanks Chozart I'll see how much it will be for me to go Core 2 Duo.. Do you like my case? And whe3ls I don't want an DirectX 9 card. I'm going to keep whatever card I have until it's like the 6800s and the 7950s.

**Ok so I looked into it and an Core 2 Duo Build wil be about $200 more and I don't want to make such a jump. Didn't want to spend more then $1,000 on the computer anyway. And yup chozart it does include a 19" Wide SAMSUNG, Logitech Multimedia Keyboard (didn't need anything fancy), and an FLEXIGLOW S.W.A.T Gaming Mouse.

Right now its at about $850. I can go to 1 grand max.. any suggestions?
I was thinking about spending my $150 upgrade money on getting an X2 5200+ then getting an 8800 or whatever card is good along the lines or just get an 8800 now and upgrade the processor later.

It's ok.. do you think I should spend the $150 on upgrading to an

1. X2 5600+ (Beats the E6600 at stock speeds) **plan to get to 3.2Ghz**
2. 4GB DDR2 800 Dual Channel
3. 8800GTS 640MB

If you have that much extra cash, you should invest in Core 2 Duo.

Yes, the 5600+ beats the E6600 in many applications at stock speed (shhh... don't tell MS Excel, and a bunch of multimedia rendering applications), but the E6600 overclocks MUCH better (3.2GHz on the 5600+ is goign to be hard, while the E6600 should hit an easy 3.4GHz and possibly more... leaving the 5600+ in it's dust).

4GB isn't worth it at the moment, for neither CPU.

8800GTS... yep! Just got one... it rocks.
