Running very laggy/slow

Thread Starter
Hey guys. So I have a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 with 1 gig of ram and a stock dell 125mb video card (but my computer is not a Dell, its a custom build) and whenever I start working in video editing applications, like Pinnacle Studio Plus v9 or Photoshop CS2 my system starts to run VERY laggy/slow to where it feels like i'm using windows98 again. I think I just need a newer, dual core, 2 gigs, 320MB video card system to run such high-end video editing software, but one of my good friends insists that its a problem with how my computer is setup: some internal issue, not my hardware. I know much more about computers than him but this computer is a custom build and when I'm running Pinnacle Studio 9 my CPU usage is only about 20% but is UNBEARABLY slow and laggy. Any ideas??

Your sensor is borked, CPU would shut down if it were really that hot.
Try Speedfan
see if it gives the same temp.
