Not bad

Here is my wishlist (based on your picks with adjustments)
https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...Title=MuteMath

Chances:
  • Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLI does the same as the Striker, but for less money.
  • Video: I did put in SLI...
  • PSU: Silverstone DA850. Modular, powerful, Silverstone... shall I continue? 850W and 70A on a single 12V rail. Even headroom with the SLI-ed 8800's.
  • CPU: heck, why not go Quad (you WILL need more potent cooling in that case).
  • HDD: a pair of 74GB Raptors for the OS/programs and a pair of Seagate 250GB perps for data
  • Monitor: SAMSUNG 245BW Black high glossy 24" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD - that's why SLI is back in

If you get the Quad core, you need better watercooling. Post a thread in the watercooling section for advice (or MADMAN can help you out).

Drop the RAM cooling. No need.

I dropped the second DVD burner... mistake I guess?

The Q6600 is just food for thought since it fits the budget (and after July 22, it'll be only $266 or so). However, the E6600 is also a good pick.

That's just one more thing that you really don't need to spend the money on...

In my opinion, of course

Yeah, These opinions help me greatly, thats why I'm asking if my setup is good.

I don't want to buy it and go back and see something that will be better for me.

At this moment, the Quad won't be better, except in 3DMark06 and a few games that support multi cores.

However, it is more future proof.. (Alan Wake!)

At this moment, I would just get the E6600, since the Quad is a bit too expensive now. If it starts falling short, replace it with a Quad, which then will cost less than $300.

Updated the wishlist:
https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...Title=MuteMath

- E6600
- DA750 instead of the 850. Still more than plenty for SLI-ed 8800GTXs
- Dropped RAM cooling
- Dropped the pair of 74GB Raptors and pair of 250GB Seagates for one pair of 150GB Raptors (although personally I would get the first set up).

And there is no need for the PhysX card. Few games support it, and it's basically a dying technology, since GPUs take over that functionality, or games are coded to use one core for Physx (allan Wake again ... )

Oh... do look for a good soundcard and speakers
