Why Does My e6600 OC So Poorly?

Thread Starter
I have to add a little voltage to teh supposd stock of 1.325v jsut to get it's to run @ 2.99GHz(333FSB) and the RAM, don't get me started. I had to add .1 v and take the timings from 4-4-4-12 DDR2 800 to 6-6-6-18 DDR2 1000 using option 2 on my f10 BIOS.

Not only that but on a side note my BIOS temp reading are stuck @ 128C, this happend after i installed my tuniq tower too, ***?

tomorrow me and my friend are rebuilding my system(hardware wise). ya kno, cleaning out all the dust, reseating my tuniq w/ less AS5, etc...

anyway. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh, my specs in my sys are slightly innacurate now... same HW, differnt clocks.

It also seems my CPU's OCing ability is going down w/ age? I wish i could explain on more detail on that but i'm tired and am going to bed. I'm looking forward to my many replys () in the morning, lol.

hard to say...with those hardwares you should definately be going higher.

i think the sensible action at this stage is to do the rebuild you mention. taking it all out, cleaning, reseating and such like has been known to fix issues.

Knock your RAM down on a 1:1 divider! (i.e. set it to DDR2 533 speeds when the FSB is stock 266MHz)

Which G.Skill is it?? If it's cheap stuff, then I am not surprised. If it's something like the HK's or HZ's, then check if your vdimm is at 2.1V at least

What week is your E6600 and what kind of G.Skill do you have? My PK can't do much at 4-4-4-12, but I know for a fact the HKs and HZs will do 1000mhz at 4-4-4-12 easy.

yep they are the crappy PKs
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231087

I didn't know what the best RAM was at the time and it was really cheap, good reviews, and had good timing so i went for it. actulyl RMA'd a set by accident that seem'd to OC better than the set i have know...

oh and they should be running @ 2.1V. +.3v on 965p's default 1.9 os 2.1...
and i have no idea what week my CPU is. n00b Q: how do u find that out? :/

edit: geuss i'm not goiung to bed yet

well you should still get 400fsb out of them running 1:1 which would give you a much higher oc, something aint right with your system

How new is your e6600? my e6600 is quite new and it is voltage hungry compared those earlier super OC'er e6600's.. makes me feel bad.

I went crazy 1 day and put .2v+ on the FSB and .2+ on the mch and ran it @ 1.475v and tried the 1:1 @ 400FSB. teh SOB wuldn't even post! i can do 400FSB @ 8x multi but the volts it needs are a bit high, like 1.45v :/

maybe i jsut really suck @ OCing but I can't run it @ the settign in my specs anymore liek i used to. I could run it @ my specs OC for 36hrs straight no instability, now @ those setting i can't run orthos for 2hrs! ***? I did jsut swtich to vista as my primary OS and saw my 1st(and 2nd, and 3rd) vista BSODs, lol.

I got mine the day newegg dropped tehir price from 429.99(or someting like that) to 329.99...

order date was "8/18/2006 6:20:16 PM"

If i had the money i'd have definatly gotten some HZ sticks to replace these...
