Can a CPU bottleneck a GPU? - Page 4

I doubt it. I used to run an Athlon 700MHz with a GeForce 6 and it kicked ass. BTW, that Athlon was out before GeForce 2 even came out so talk about CPU/GPU mismatch.

EDIT: Besides, the 7600GT should be fine with the Core 2

Quick answer: Yes a CPU can bottleneck a GPU.

More specific anwer: That's not happening here.

More likely your GPU overclock is causing heat issues which can create a lurching effect in your video processing. With the prices of the 8800GTS where they are, I'd say you'll get more from upgrading there than anywhere else, with the possible exception of another gig of RAM.

But, this is the thing. One IS NOT running faster than the other. If the GPU can process data faster than the CPU can pass it on, then the GPU will alternate between load and idle. It will not cause issues. If the GPU cannot, then the CPU will alternate between idle and load.

"Bottlenecking" is an idea. It doesn't really exist. By that, I mean "bottlenecking" can't cause screen freezes, driver issues, crashing, overheating blah blah.

well - heres my plan...

Step 1: wait patiently for my 8800GTS and RAM to arrive, oh, and also my Aerocool AeroEngine 2 Case, and anothe Vantec Thermoflow 120mm fan...

Step 2: accept delivery of the above-mentioned items...

Step 3: scream out of sheer happiness and joy that i will soon have a top-class setup...

Step 4: dismantle current case and components

Step 5: assemble components in new case

Step 6: format HDD and re-install EVERYTHING...

Step 7: scream for sheer happiness.... again....

Step 8: benchmark again, and again, and again to make sure it's not a dream...

Step 9: kiss my lovely wife and say THANK YOU for allowing me to buy this for my birthday!!!!

Step 10: not sure yet, but play games on "EYE CANDY DELUXE" that for sure...

YAY - I'm so excited.....
