ok a buddy of mine wanted to start gaming so he came to me and this is what i came up with i am thinking either the 2x 7300gt's or the 8600gt

7300gt is crap, a 8600 will smoke it, as well as give him a bit of future proofing due to the DX10 ability. And if hes gonna game, I'd suggest getting him a bigger HD, maybe a 160 or so.

ya the 8600 beats it hands down.. you should get the 8600 because it has the Dx10 ... as to the 7300 with the dx9 ... the 8600 is the better buy

It depends. Does he want to SLI at all in the future? If not then just go with a single PCI-E slot board. Myself, although I don't have a second card yet, I bought a SLI board for when I do get two cards to SLI.

I don't like the reviews on the 8600. I had a 6600 now a 7600 and was looking forward to a 8600 but I will think again. See if you can find a very cheep 8800 instead.

If you realy need a 7 series go with a 7600. They are great!

Dood, dont BUY windows XP, soon it wont be supported. you can get Vista OEM 32-bit home for system builders for the same price HERE on newegg.
